Early this month, the Wyoming Energy Authority provided comments to the California Energy Commission (CEC) on their recent Workshop on the West-Wide Governance Pathways Initiative. The initiative has proposed the formation of a new Regional Organization that would have governing authority over the California ISO (CAISO)’s Western Energy Imbalance Market and the Extended Day Ahead Market. Currently, the CAISO board members are appointed by the Governor of California. As the largest exporter of energy to the Western Interconnection, the WEA feels that political independence and transparent governance are crucial to the creation of a new Regional Organization.
